an umbrella, an apple (vocal)
a car, a computer (consonant)
I know that. In fact, sometimes a word that begins with a vowel goes just with an a, like a University or a European. I was only hesitating if it was because of the next word or because the noun.

In Madrid we have a Belgic bar. I have never been there. :(

That's because these are not vowels but diphtongs, which kind of work like consonants.

Actually they aren't diphtongs, my bad :vergu: The first character would be /j/, which sounds like a vowel but is actually a consonant.

I failed Phonetics so feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken

Nothing better than an strong ale (is it 'an' with an adjective between?). But I prefer Belgic beer over all.

Nope, it should be "a strong" ale.

I've never known the differences between ale, lager, stout and all that stuff. I just drink beer, bro.

I agree on the Belgian beer part. There's this bar near Sagrada Familia, they have a good selection of imported beers and the Belgian ones are by far the best.

Last week I spent a few days in Gran Canaria. One day we found a pub with an impressive selection of imported beers (about 100, or something like that, which is pretty amazing for Gran Canaria). They had Duvel and Rochefort 10 *.* and also they gave me a free sample bottle of Viva!, a self-made beer produced by a local microbrewery that was slightly better than spanish industrial trademarks (or even worse, canarian industrial trademarks xD)

Pingu, in Madrid, near Bilbao, we have a pub and an international beer store. Thanks to that small store I could finally taste american beers (like flying dog, although it was a little bit stronger than I would have liked  )

Duvel is awesome.

By the way, I've been reading the whole thread, and I must say I kind of miss these arguments involving Gilles :gñe:

For me the best are Duvel, Piraat and Kwak. Maybe Belzebuth too, but I have tried it just once.

Hoegaarden Forbidden Fruit, Charles Quint, Delirium Tremens? These are great too.

Has anyone tried Samichlaus? They have it in the S. Familia bar I mentioned, and it's supposed to be hardcore shit (14% alcohol). But I'm not so sure about getting it because I once tasted a 12% beer and it was fucking gross, didn't even taste like beer.

I don't like Delirium Tremens that much, but I have heard a lot of great shit about Hoegaarden Forbidden Fruit too.
